$3 Church Pew

Last week while I was out garage saling I found a church pew. Growing up we had one of the large pews in our parlor (the house was built in 1860 so yep, parlor was what that room was called!). This pew was sort of reminiscent to that old pew that we used to have.

The guy told me his wife is a pastor and she picked it up at one of her churches. He wanted $5 for it. I paid $3. Yep, only $3. Talk about a steal of a deal!

This is what it looked like before I painted it.

And this is it after.

I used some cream paint that I got for free from a warehouse down the street. They had buckets of free paint and it was good free paint. Like expensive stuff. All full cans, all leftover from big commercial projects (think Starbucks stores and swanky businesses). So there were some good colors.

After putting on three coats, I sanded the edges and distressed it a little bit more.

Then I made a little bolster pillow from some of the leftover potato sacks that I used here .

And while I was at it, I made a bolster pillow for the couch too.

I think it makes a pretty cool accent chair.

What do you think? I think it was worth $3!

What a find! I've always wanted to have a church pew in our home. I heard of a family who used a pew as a naughty bench, where both parties in trouble had to sit together and work things out. I love that idea.
