Probiotic Foods or Supplements...which is better?

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Activia Probiotic Yogurt. All opinions are 100% mine.

I consider myself to be fairly health conscious and do my best to take care of myself, but the older I get, the more I realize that there are things that I should be doing {after years of my dentist hounding me I am now flossing, so you can rest easy on that one!} that I'm not so that my body can be functioning properly. I want to make good choices that make the least disruption to my already over-booked lifestyle. If you are like me, you have heard about probiotics, but the word has gone in one ear and out the other. In case you missed it you can find out What the Heck Probiotics Are and Why You Should Care.

If you have even spent a second looking into probiotics or talked to your girlfriends about it, you may be confused about what is the best way is to add probiotic foods to your diet.  Is it better to consume probiotic Foods or Supplements? Let's take a look.

Probiotic Foods or Supplements: Which is Better?

When you start looking for probiotics, you have a lot of different choices. You can get your probiotics from foods, like certain yogurts or from supplements that come in pill or powder form.
Swallowing a probiotic pill sounds like an easy way to get healthy bacteria  for your gut , but I don't have the best track record for taking pills. I always forget about them in the drawer and I hate swallowing them down. While probiotic supplements may seem easier, they usually only contain the probiotics, whereas food, like certain yogurts, will contain additional nutrients like calcium, protein and potassium.

And since I do have to eat every day, it's kind of a win win to get my probiotics from food like Activia lowfat and nonfat yogurts and probiotic dairy drinks. It's easy to incorporate Activia  twice a day. While Activia comes in delicious flavors like strawberry and blueberry, I love adding a little fresh fruit into my yogurt as well. I grab one in the morning and as a snack in the afternoon. Or, you can blend Activia into a smoothie with fruit for an extra fun treat.

The bottom line, a great way to incorporate probiotics into a healthy lifestyle and to get the benefit for your digestive well-being, is to enjoy probiotics in foods such as Activia versus through supplements. Getting your probiotics through food like Activia is not only easy and delicious, but you will feel good knowing you're getting the nutrients your body needs.
