Leavenworth, Washington in the Spring

Over spring break, our family decided to drive a few hours across the mountain pass to enjoy a long weekend in Leavenworth, Washington. Leavenworth is an adorable Bavarian town in the Cascade Mountains. It used to be a struggling logging town but an idea by two Seattle businessmen to turn it into a themed town in the 60's ended up working out quite well and the rest is history! People travel to Leavenworth in the fall for Oktoberfest, in the winter for holiday lights and sleigh rides and in the summer for wine tastings and festivals but what is there to do in the spring? We found some things to keep our family busy and maybe you can include Leavenworth in your spring plans too!

Leavenworth, Washington in the Spring

Spring Skiing at Stevens Pass

Stevens Pass ski lifts are open from mid November to late April. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years and this was my first time skiing at Stevens Pass. I loved it! The runs were great and there was a lot of variety to try. We didn't hit a single chair lift line and it felt like we had the mountain to ourselves sometimes.
I don't think I've ever skied that late into the season, but it was delightful because you really didn't need too many layers. I often had my gloves off and my coat unzipped because I was so warm.
If you don't ski, you can also find a free snow play area or you can snowshoe on the trails leaving from the Nordic Center.

Visit Waterfront Park

Not far from downtown Leavenworth, you will find this little park tucked away with short walking trails and viewing areas. There is also a small play area for kids.
There are restrooms and several beaches you can stop at to enjoy the view or a picnic lunch.

Spend Time in Downtown Leavenworth, WA

There are lots of wonderful places to eat, shop and play at in downtown Leavenworth. Find a parking spot and walk up and down exploring the quaint little town. Don't forget to stop at Front Street Park to see live musicians and other entertainment throughout the year.

Hike Icicle Gorge

There is very little change in elevation, making this hiking trail perfect for people of all ages and ability levels. It has the best views of the Wenatchee River on well-maintained trails.

Stay Local

We rented a beautiful HomeAway home that accommodated our family and our two dogs quite well. Snowshoe Inn was a fully-equipped modern rustic mountain home on 5 acres with a fully-fenced yard for the dogs {and kids!} and an outdoor hot tub.
The home had everything we needed including a fully stocked game closet and a collection of alphabetized DVD's so we could have stayed at the house for days and never left!

Never booked a HomeAway rental? Here's a beginners guide on how to do it.

I know we didn't even scratch the surface of all there is to see and do in Leavenworth, Washington. I'm hoping we can spend some more time exploring again soon. Have you been to Leavenworth? What would you recommend?
