MISSION BAY SAN DIEGO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Where to Stay

If you want to be in the heart of all the action in the Mission Bay Marina, you are going to want to book the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay. You'll get a nice blend of relaxation and luxury while still being in the heart of everything you want to see and do. There are panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Mission Bay, and downtown San Diego. Plus you get to enjoy the on-site {heated!} pools {one with beach entry access}, waterslides {there are 3!}.

If you want to stay at the pool for the day, you can also enjoy poolside dining and drinks at Pelican's on the Bay.

The suites have enough room for multiple people or a large family and have incredible balconies that overlook the bay. Or you can stay in the Tower and get a bird's eye view of the property!

There are plenty of walking trails around the property and when I wandered around the marina one morning, I noticed a day-of sign-up for direct access to whale watching! You can also easily access other water activities like sailing and boating.

Included in your resort fee is a kayak or paddleboard rental so you can explore the bay. It's a great way to get out on the water!

Where to Eat

A highlight of staying at the Hyatt Regency Mission bay is dining at the acclaimed Red Marlin restaurant. There's an incredible menu that is crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and every dish is a culinary masterpiece! You can get everything from local seafood options to mouthwatering steaks. You can pair your meal with a selection from the extensive wine list or get a handcrafted cocktail while you enjoy stunning views overlooking the marina.

How to Spend Your Day in the Mission Bay Area

San Diego has so many different experiences just waiting to be explored!

Old Town San Diego

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of Old Town San Diego. Wander through quaint streets lined with adobe buildings, vibrant shops, and authentic Mexican restaurants. Explore historic sites like the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and the iconic Whaley House Museum. If you go on an evening tour prepare for it to be spooky since it's one of the most haunted places in America! You'll learn more about the city and it's history just by walking the streets in Old Town.

Wildflowers in La Jolla

The wildflowers have been blooming like crazy recently in San Diego, but they put on a particularly incredible show in the coastal area of La Jolla. You can take a leisurely hike along the coastal trails that are bursting with vibrant blooms. You will fall in love with the pristine beaches and the charming village-like atmosphere of the area.

Sunset at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

No visit to San Diego is complete without witnessing the awe-inspiring spectacle of a sunset. Especially at sunset at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Perched atop rugged cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, you can get a feel for this natural wonder while getting front-row seats to nature's nightly masterpiece. Get there early, street parking is available, but it does fill up, and don't rush out too quickly after the sun goes down or you'll just be stuck in traffic. Maybe take the time to grab dinner in the area or bring a picnic dinner and watch the surfers while you soak in a San Diego sunset. There's nothing like it!

Enjoy a Spa Day

Make sure you take some time to treat yourself to a pampering session at the Wellness Lounge Day Spa. You can't miss it! It's located adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay pool. You can get an array of indulgent treatments all of which are designed to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul! I had my first-ever 90-minute massage and then enjoyed the steam room with eucalyptus essential oils and felt like it was the perfect way to end my stay!

ProTip: Book the spa on your final day, especially if you have a late flight or flexibility on your departure.

We were headed to another part of San Diego and our next hotel didn't allow check-in until 3, so we procured late check out at the Hyatt, then enjoyed our spa treatments and got a special key after check out that still allowed us to access the pool. We also had access to the day spa and enjoyed our time relaxing in the private tranquil setting!
