I've always been a big reader and every year I look forward to discovering new books. I often look for books that help me see the world differently. This year has been a bit of a slower reading year for me. I just haven't been in the same headspace that I normally am to devour books. I'm feeling like I'm regressing a bit back to the magazine era of reading except in 2025, that looks more like podcasts. While I didn't hit my normal goal of reading 50 books this year {usually very attainable and something I exceed}, I did read 44, which was better than I thought I did! Some stuck out more than others, and honestly, narrowing down my favorites is usually pretty easy. These eight books really stood out to me, and left different marks on me. These were the top eight books of 2025!

I love a good historical fiction book. It seems to be the genre that I keep going back to time and time again. Maybe it's because I didn't pay enough attention in history class so I literally am shocked most of the time at how things play out. Or maybe it's because those books transport me to a time that allows me to step out of my reality for a bit. I'm an avid reader, finishing one book a week, and through the years I've come across some really great historical fiction books that I always recommend to friends. If I hear you've read a book that's historically based, girl, you better believe I'll be recommending one of these to you until I find one that you haven't read! So buckle up and take notes, you aren't going to want to miss this list!

I feel like maybe I missed my calling as a librarian. One of my favorite questions to ask people is "what are you reading?" I read a lot of books. I always have. But sometimes when I get asked about books I draw a blank. Does that ever happen to you? A few years ago, I created a list of 10+ books I always recommend to friends and that list has exploded! It's been shared and read and pinned hundreds of thousands of times. I thought it was time for an update! Here are 10 more books I always recommend to friends.

I have always been a reader. I loved silent reading days in school and as a kid, I remember buying a hammock at a garage sale, hanging it up between trees in our backyard, and curling up for hours with the girls from the Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley High. If I hear a conversation about books, I generally join in and take notes. I love hearing not only what others are reading, but what others are loving! And since we don't all have a lot of extra time, I want to recommend books that people will love and want to take the time to read. So I put together a list of my top favorite books that I read this year. There is not a single book on this list that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Welcome to the top books to read in the new year, Rachel edition!

I was late to the party but now I can't get enough. I had heard about podcasts and was vaguely aware of them, but hadn't listened or downloaded any. I had even recorded audio for a podcast I would be a part of but I had never taken the time to listen to any. I do enjoy listening to talk radio and as a child of the 80's I'm a big fan of background noise when I do anything mundane. I spend a lot of time in my car and the music on the radio stations was starting to get a bit redundant. I was looking for something new, so I put it out there and did what any grown woman does, I asked my friends on Facebook what their favorite podcasts were. I downloaded all of them. I spent time listening to them and weeding out the ones that I didn't really like and downloading more of the ones that I did. Really, it was all in the name of research {you're welcome} so that I could put together a list of the best podcasts you should be listening to.
