Back to School Kleenex Teacher Gift with Free Printable Gift Tag

This post is brought to you by Kleenex® Facial Tissue. All opinions are 100% my own.

It's hard to believe that the summer is coming to an end, but I've started seeing the aisles at the store fill with school supplies and back-to-school-themed everything, so I know it's coming. Maybe you've already started digging into your kids' school supply list or perhaps you are dragging your feet soaking up every last second of summer. Whatever camp you fall in, it's happening, so let's get you prepared.

Several years ago, with college expenses looming and a school system in desperate need of emergency substitute teachers, I signed up to be in the classroom. I got a totally new outlook on how classrooms are run from a teacher's perspective and was shocked that many of the supplies kids brought in on the first day of school were depleted from the shelves by mid-year. I stopped complaining about the 26 glue sticks we were asked to send in and started sending in extra supplies. I'm not going to say I became the classroom hero but...ya know.

I will say, it sure made for some grateful teachers who were very thankful for my support. I'm sharing a simple way you can help this year as your kids head back to the classroom. You'll be a hero in the eyes of the teachers-I promise you that.

Teacher classroom baby shower celebration

Several years ago, my daughter's fourth grade teacher was pregnant with her first baby.
I thought that it would be fun to throw a baby shower for her as a classroom celebration.
It was a fun party that you can read more about here.

Fast forward a few years, and my son's third grade teacher is pregnant with her first baby
{a boy they plan on naming Kamden} due in July.

I thought that it would be fun to host another classroom baby shower celebration.
The kids have had the chance to see their teachers belly grow and have been excited about the baby since they found out that their teacher was expecting.

The week prior to the classroom baby shower,
I used my silhouette software to design a few items.
I found a cute whale in my silhouette library and decided to use that as my theme.

The whale image came with two small tear drop shapes for the spout,
I just replicated those and made enough for the kids in the class to each sign one.
While the teacher was out, I brought the grey shapes and a sharpie pen in for the kids to write their names.

I glued the shapes down in a pattern that I liked and put it in a frame with a mat for the teacher to have as a keepsake.

I think it turned out really cute!

I used the whale image and designed two more keepsake type mementos for the teacher.
It's always fun to see what kids say when they fill in the blanks.

Since we are still in school, we played a few games that had an educational spin on them.
For the literary component, we did a fill in the blank nursery rhyme game.
You can find the free printable here.
For the science component, we matched animal baby names.
That free printable can be found here.

We also talked about math.
For instance, the kids guessed how many diapers a baby would go through a day
{3 was a popular answer!}
The kids took the average {it's 10} and calculated how many diapers a baby will go through in a week, month and year.

We also talked about using averages to guess the baby's height and weight and also how a due date can mean that the baby can be born two weeks before or two weeks after.

The kids filled in their "how to be a good mom" advice sheets and the teacher can keep those in a keepsake book for reference.

We collected money for a classroom gift card and some of the kids brought in some of their own presents for the teacher.
While we didn't have a real cake, we did have Popsicles outside on the playground during recess.

The kids will all remember the year their teacher had a baby,
and hopefully their teacher will remember how very special this time of celebration was.

Teacher appreciation free printable

This week is teacher appreciation week.
Because our teachers work hard every day, I take this week to show my appreciation.
Every year is different depending on the teacher.
{this teacher printable has gotten hundreds of thousands of pins on pinterest}

There are a lot of ideas out there in blog land,
this just happens to be what I am giving to some of the teachers at my son's school.
Hobby Lobby had these light bulb shaped jars half off, making them 99 cents.

I designed these tags in my Silhouette software that you can use if you right click,
rename, save and print from your computer.
You won't have the luxury of having your silhouette cut out the circles for you,
but you can use a circle cutter to cut them out.

Fill your jars with a fun treat
{like skittles}
and use twine to tie on your tag.

I designed this tag to say "the future is brighter with you as a teacher" because I give these gifts to teachers that my kids don't currently have right now.
Which is why it doesn't say "my teacher".
Don't forget to take the time to appreciate those teachers this week.
And remember your crossing guard, the bus driver, the specialist...
If you are a teacher, thank you!

Teacher Valentines with a Perk!

I saw this printable Valentine on Skip to My Lou last week.
Kori from Paper and Pigtails offers this adorable printable for you too!

Starbucks has some cute heart Valentine's gift cards that I stuck on with heart washi tape, then tied on some bakers twine.  I think the kids teachers are going to love them!

Teacher appreciation gifts

This week is teacher appreciation week at most schools.
I made a few gifts this weekend for my younger two kids teachers.

My first grader has a boy teacher.
That is pretty awesome.
Especially if you are a boy.
Each class in his school has a theme.
Owen's class has a superman theme.

So when I saw this picture, I knew I had to print it up and give it to my son's teacher.
I had the frame on hand and while this picture isn't a printable, I was able to copy and paste it into a word document and print it.  You can find it here.

I also used the teachers classroom logo and made a personalized note pad using my Silhouette software.

I loved how the notepad turned out, I made one for my daughter's teacher as well.

When I saw this last week on WhipperBerry, I knew I had to make my own version.

Again, I used the Silhouette machine to cut out the flowers and I had all of the other materials on hand.
I picked up the flower pot for 50 cents at a garage sale.
The grand total for this adorable gift, was less than $1.

Did you make any fun teacher appreciation gifts for you kids teachers?
Make sure you appreciate them this week for all of their hard work!
