This post is brought to you by Sears Home Services. All opinions are 100% my own.

Winter is just around the corner and I'm sure by now that you have felt the chill in the air. I'm not quite sure when our furnace fired up for the first time, but I'm so glad that it did because there is nothing I like more than a warm cozy home. It's never a convenient time to have something like your HVAC on the fritz, so making sure it's in good working order is important, especially during the holiday season when all you really want to do is snuggle up inside with friends and family. Not only do you want your HVAC to be working, you also want it to be working well. Using these 8 energy-saving tips will make sure it does just that and as an added bonus, it can save you money!

8 Winter Energy-Saving Tips to Save you Money

1. Use the Sun

The sun can offer you some free heat when it's shining. Open up the curtains on those south-facing windows and bring the sun inside. When the sun goes down, close the curtains to trap in the heat from the day. Let the sunlight naturally heat your home for free. Free is my favorite!

2. Cover Drafty Windows

Window treatments and coverings can help you block up those drafty windows, but you can also look into heavy-duty clear plastic sheeting that can seal in a drafty window. You can also use weatherstripping to seal air leaks around doors.

3. Bundle Up

Put on a few extra layers inside so that you are able to turn down the thermostat a bit. Add a pair of socks or slippers and place blankets around so that you can easily grab them to wrap up in. You can also make a heated corn bag. We use ours in the bottom of our bed at night and I keep one heated on my lap when I work at home on the computer.

4. Use a Smart Thermostat

Consider switching to a smart thermostat that can adjust easily to your needs and behaviors. It took us some time to get ours to understand us, but once we did, it knows that we like to have it warm during the day, and colder at night and will automatically adjust to that.

5. Service your Furnace

It's important to maintain your heating and cooling system to keep it in tip top working order so you don't run into any issues. You can trust the experts at Sears Home Services to keep your HVAC working well. Regular service can make sure your system is running as energy efficiently as possible and can save you money on costly repairs in the future.

My readers can save $40 right now off of a paid HVAC repair or maintenance.

7. Make the Switch to LED

Consider making the switch on all your lights to LED to save you money. LED lights use 75% less energy and last 25% longer than your normal incandescent lighting.

8. Change your Filters

A dirty filter means that your HVAC has to work harder. Make sure you change your filter often. This is an easy DIY any homeowner can do and it's part of your routine HVAC maintenance as well.

These 8 tips will help you not only save energy, but they will help add some more money to your pocket. Who doesn't need that?
