Go on a trip

Make memories as a family by going on a trip to celebrate! You can do a simple weekend trip or even a long extended trip if your budget allows. When you’re picking your destination, look for a place with opportunities to do things together. While sitting on a beach is fun, look for something different from your traditional family vacation. Why not go ziplining or take a canoe out on the lake instead?

Do something they want to do

If you want to find a way to connect with your new graduate, why not do something they’re interested in? Even if it’s something small like playing their favorite videogame on multiplayer, this will mean the world to them. This will show them that you’re making an effort to spend time together and take an interest in things they want to do, but you can have some great laughs and bond simultaneously.

Be a part of the next step

What is your child going to do now that they’ve graduated? Maybe they’re going off to college or getting their first apartment. Instead of just waving goodbye, be a part of this new transition. You can help them move into their new place or help them buy textbooks and school supplies for college.

Teach them and prepare them for life outside the house

Are you worried that they’re not ready for life on their own just yet? I know it wasn’t the first time I moved out! Now is a great time to teach your kids some basic essentials before leaving the nest. Each night, help teach them how to cook the meals you’re preparing and maybe let them take a shot at making dinner a few nights. You can help them make their first budget or even how to do laundry without overflowing or breaking the washing machine.

Have “dates”

It might not be “cool” to hang out with mom or dad, but you can make this more memorable by giving them a piece of your time. Go on a bit of a date, just the two of you. You can see a movie, hit the mall, or do something like play laser tag if you’re up for it. This is a great way to make memories and get one-on-one time if they have siblings.
