Why You Should Consider an All-Inclusive Resort Vacation for your Family

Some of the best memories in my childhood included family vacations and I want to make sure that I expose my children to similar travel experiences. In the past few years my husband and I started vacationing at all-inclusive resorts. We tried one as a couple and then decided that the kids would probably enjoy staying at one too, and since then we've stayed as a family at three different all-inclusive resorts. If friends ask for recommendations for a family vacation I usually point them in the direction of an all-inclusive resort. It's not always the first thing on a families mind, but maybe after reading this post, you will decide that an all-inclusive resort is the perfect vacation for your family.

Why You Should Consider an All-Inclusive Resort Vacation for your Family

1. Everything is Included!

It's not called all-inclusive for nothing! I've been known to pack a suitcase full of food when we traveled to Hawaii as a family. To my kids, this doesn't feel like a vacation, and to be honest, it doesn't feel like a vacation to me either when I have to worry about making meals for my family, grocery shopping and clean up.  Drinks, snacks, heck, even room-service and the fully-stocked bar in your room is all included in your price.

Most all-inclusive resorts will also include non-motorized water sports like kayaks, sailboats and stand up paddleboards.  The Riu Palace Pacifico offered boogie boards that my kids loved to use in the ocean. We also took our kayaks daily and even got to paddle next to wild dolphins.

2. Great Kids Programs {or not}

Not all all-inclusive resorts are the same. Some all-inclusive resorts are known for their kids programs {like Club Med} and they have activities that will draw kids of all ages in. Most resorts will offer some kind of a kids program but sometimes it's offered as an after thought and only because it seems like that's what guests expect. If a kids program is important to you, research the resort that will be best for your family's needs. Ask friends for their recommendations and read reviews.

My kids have never really been interested in participating in kids programs, so this isn't a deal breaker for us. However, other families may consider this a high priority.

3. Enjoy Fun on Site

There is never any real reason for you to leave an all-inclusive resort. There are usually handfuls of restaurants with plenty of variety in food options. Most resorts even have great nightly entertainment that is fun for the whole family. We've seen magicians, gotten to take part in releasing baby turtles as part of a conservation effort, watched live shows and listened to live music all without leaving the resort property.

4. There are no Hidden Fees

There is one flat price that you pay and that includes all taxes, fees and tips. You won't be shocked at check out, but instead, know going in what your vacation is going to cost you.

5. They are Convenient

On some vacations, I've done days and days worth of research trying to find the best restaurant to eat at and the top local things to see and do, but when it comes to an all-inclusive resort once you select your location, there is no more work to be done.

6. Get Pampered

This doesn't mean you are hitting the spa, nope, though that's fun too! I've found that all-inclusive resorts offer some amazing service. Think butlers, 24-hour room service and sayings like "it is our pleasure," that will leave you and your family feeling pampered and well cared for beyond any other experience you could have given to them on any vacation.

7. Try New Things

So maybe checking in and never leaving a resort doesn't feel like you are being very adventurous, but hear me out. I get a little bit adventurous, particularly in food and drink choices, when I'm visiting an all-inclusive resort. My kids can try new foods and if they don't like it, they can order something different.

If I go to a bar at home and pay $12 for a drink, I'm going to make sure I order something I really like. At an all-inclusive I can try the whole bar menu and take a sip or two of something I don't like before moving on to a new favorite. That's the beauty of an all-inclusive resort!
