A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from the super sweet people at Elmer's. They offered to send me a pack of goodies to help inspire some creativity. They started off by sending me a link for 101 creative uses . I spent some time browsing through their ideas and was immediately inspired.
This gear wall art for my son's room is what I came up with using all Elmer's products.
I was initially inspired by this gear that I found recently at a garage sale for $3. I love the cool shape of gears and how industrial they are, but this gear weighs about 15 pounds so there was no way I was going to be able to hang it on the wall.
I started out by searching images on-line and found a few images I liked. I copied and pasted them into Word and printed them off. Then I cut them out.
I used two sheets of foam board for the gears.
I started by tracing around the gears with pencil
Then I used the X-ACTO gripster knife to cut around the outline.
I knew I wanted to mount the gears on the foam board so I kept putting them on the board to see how many I wanted to use.
Some of the edges were rough after I cut them out, so I took a nail file and filed the edges down to make them smooth.
Once all of the edges were filed, I used the Elmer's Craft bond tacky glue to adhere the gears to the foam board.
I even went through my stash and found some chipboard numbers and letters to use as well.
After everything was glued down, I took a few different kinds of paint and painted the foam board and gears. After everything was painted, I took some Krylon Chrome spray paint that I bought for 25 cents at a garage sale and painted over the whole board.
Since the foam board was so light, I thought I would try out these Command strips to hang the art on the wall.
And this is the end result!
I love how the paint colors underneath shine through the chrome spray paint over top.
Guess what the best part is? Elmer's is offering TWO of my readers a chance to win a complete prize pack including all of the items I used to make my gear art. Come back tomorrow to find out how.
