Cashmere Baby Blanket re purposed from sweaters

There seems to be a little bit of a baby boom going on around here. Are you experiencing it in your neck of the woods too? It's been super exciting welcoming new life into this world.

New babies, means lots of baby gifts and I have been busy making them! Sometimes I think it would be so much easier to just walk into a store and pick something up. But as I make the item for the baby I spend a lot of time thinking about that babe and their family, and that ends up being a really special time for me.

I had the idea for this cashmere sweater baby blanket for over a year now. It's taken me some time hunting the sweaters down and getting enough to be able to make them into a blanket. I finally ended up using four different sweaters and was able to make two 30x40 blankets with them.

I'm not a quilter, and this was the closest I have ever come to quilting. It took me HOURS to cut the strips of cashmere and get them sewn together, but the end result is well worth it.

I added batting inside and the back is yellow snuggle flannel. If I had really been thinking I wouldn't have made two blankets, but just made one ginormous one for me. Cozy!

What do you usually give as a baby gift?
I'm linking up to these fabulous parties and this contest.

This is such a great idea and the colours are lovely. Yes, a grown-up size one would be great.
