DIY Painted Wood Bead Garland

When it comes to home decor, DIY is my middle name! I think it's because so often when I was younger, my mom and I would be shopping and she'd always say to me, "you could make that"! {Side note, also one of the worst things you can mention out loud at a craft fair to the vendor.} I always liked the challenge of creating something and making it my own. This mostly came out of being thrifty but it also comes out of some weird calming effect the art of mass-producing things gives me. I've seen these painted wood bead garlands all over the place, from the shelves at Magnolia Market, to the baskets at the local hobby shops. I thought I'd try my hand at making them and am sharing how you can do it too! Let's go and make some DIY painted wood bead garland!

Easy DIY Christmas Tree Basket Stand

Growing up my uncle had a Christmas tree farm. One of my favorite childhood memories was going up to the farm to pick out two live Christmas trees every year. While my parents were setting up the trees in their various locations around the house, the kids had an artificial flocked Christmas tree we used to set up in the hallway upstairs. We would surround it with our stuffed animals and it was something we could easily decorate on our own, unlike the 12-foot-tall trees we got for the other parts of the house. I loved that we had a tree that was all our own. 

I can't seem to shake the feeling that it isn't Christmas if I don't have more than one tree decorating the house. I picked up a small artificial tree this past summer at a garage sale for $2 and I decided that it was the perfect tree to work some magic on. I loved the idea of our old flocked Christmas tree, so I did a little DIY flocking. {more on that tomorrow! You aren't going to want to miss that tutorial.} All of the supplies were from the dollar store and it was so fun and easy.

Another recent trend that I'm loving is using baskets as a base. I saw a few Christmas tree collars lining the shelves at the store, but I was pretty sure that I could DIY a basket for a similar look. And I did. I just love how it turned out. Grey and Glam Teen Bedroom Makeover DIY

Am I the only one that slowly transforms a room? Please tell me I'm not. I guess they say slowly and surely wins the race right, so if there were a decorating race I'd be coming out ahead maybe. Here's hoping! When we purchased our home nearly eight years ago, there is one of the bedrooms that is quite a bit bigger than the others. Each of our three kids were told that they could take a turn in the big bedroom, with our oldest son having first dibs. He moved out two years ago, and in came my daughter who was ready to make some changes. Once you see the before and after you will see why. Painting Your Stairway the Easy Way

Paint is one of my favorite ways to transform a room. It doesn't cost a lot of money but it makes a huge impact in a space. That said, painting is not my favorite thing to do. It takes time and some prep work, neither of which I like, but after it's done, the results are long-lasting and I'm always glad I did it. That's not to say that I'm not always looking for an easier way to do it and I think that HomeRight has figured it out for me. Especially when I tackled the stairway in my home recently. I was having panic attacks thinking about our two dogs running through trays of wet paint tracking cute little doggie paws all over our carpet. Not to worry, there was not a single paint tray involved and far less back and forth because of this, the greatest painting invention ever.

Master Bedroom Closet DIY Built-In Transformation

My master bedroom closet has undergone the most transformation of any room in our whole house since we moved in nearly eight years ago. It was the one space that had me scratching my head the most. You see, my husband and I both have our own walk-in closets and it's delightful. My husband's closet is in our bedroom and mine is off of our master bathroom. It's long and spacious and bigger than some New York City apartments. But it had these cheap wire rack shelves that made the space nearly unusable. I knew it had potential, and slowly I've been tweaking it so that it can live up to its potential. Why not take a look with me and check out my master bedroom closets transformation. Painting a Room Navy

I'm not afraid of color. I'm pretty sure every room in our old house was some different color. We even had a red bathroom. But I do love neutrals. Our whole house is fairly neutral but I am getting an itch to paint a room navy blue. I've been seeing navy as a home painting trend for awhile now. I know I want to paint my dining room, and I've started narrowing down colors, but I think navy can be tricky. I don't want it to be too blue or too black or too light or too dark. I want it to be perfect. So I started looking around because I thought if I saw a paint color I loved in someone's home, maybe I would find the right one. So here I am, narrowing down my options so I can paint a room navy and sharing some inspiration with you. I'd love to hear your opinions, especially if you've painted a room navy before.

DIY Painted Fabric Bench

I see some pretty bad looking pieces at garage sales. It's funny how some fabric can take you back to a certain time period. Pastel florals? Yep, definitely the late 80's and early 90's. It's taken some training, but I have been doing my best to try to see past the current state of a furniture piece and think about what it really could look like with a coat of paint or a nice sanding job. Usually it doesn't take more than a little TLC, and while I have been able to look at some solid wood pieces and think all they needed was a coat of paint, I haven't tried it yet with any upholstered pieces. That is...until now!

I picked up this solid floral bench for just a few bucks. My daughter had been looking for some similar benches to put at the end of her bed {a bed she made with her grandpa last summer-you can find the tutorial here}, with no luck in our budget. When I spotted this one, I thought I would give it a try.

It was so easy and I love the after! You can still see the subtle hint of the pattern through the paint, but it's not the obnoxious floral pattern that every shoulder-padded vest was made out of in the 90's. Come check out how I did it!

Gold painted goose feathers

I find some pretty cool things at garage sales. Sometimes some of the most random things are the things that I have the hardest time passing up.  A few months ago, I picked up a ziploc bag full of goose feathers.  The family had a goose as a pet and apparently he shed.  A lot.  So for $1, I got a whole bag full of some pretty sturdy white feathers and for months they sat in a drawer because I wasn't quite sure what to do with them.

But alas, don't you worry, I came up with a cool use for those goose feathers. I love that I can use them for a few different things and hopefully, it will give you some inspiration to start creating if you happen upon your own bag of feathers at your next garage sale.

Transformation Tuesday painting a desk with metallic paint

Welcome back to another transformation Tuesday! I'm so excited to share with you my latest garage sale find from Friday that has been transformed!

I know I'm not the only one who loves painted furniture. Honey oak anything had it's place and now it's time for paint to save the day.

I had a chance to sample the metallic paint line from Modern Masters and was drawn to Pewter. There are some amazing metallics to choose from, but silver has my heart.

Bet you can't guess which item from my garage sale finds Friday I chose to paint metallic.

Transformation Tuesday: Succulents in painted terra cotta pots and cigar boxes

Welcome to the first ever transformation Tuesday here at Holy Craft! I am so excited that you are here today!  If you randomly stumbled upon today's post, here is a little background.

I'm a huge garage saler {yep, it's a word}! I have been going to sales for as long as I remember and nearly every Friday and Saturday you will know where to find me. I just love finding a deal and I have the most fun on the hunt.

However, not everything I find is in tip top shape. Sometimes my finds need a little transformation to get to their fullest potential.  Which is where my new series, transformation Tuesday comes into play.
