DIY Live Edge Hairpin Leg Side Table
Lately I've been leaning towards the modern bohemian style. I don't know what it is that I love about it, but I can't seem to get enough. Maybe it's the natural texture or the sleek organic feel, but you can see how my style is starting to gravitate in that direction. Check out this modern wood lamp I made from a vase last month and you'll see that the wood has me all googly eyed. This summer, I was garage sale shopping and found a slice from an old stump. It had a beautiful live edge and the guy said it was just taking up space in his garage. In the 1970's someone probably would have put a coat of lacquer on it and made a clock, but today, I'm finishing it up and making it into an end table with hairpin legs.
I did a quick search on Craigslist and it turns out you can buy a wood stump or log slice and make your own, so I'm going to show you how!

DIY Painted Fabric Bench
I see some pretty bad looking pieces at garage sales. It's funny how some fabric can take you back to a certain time period. Pastel florals? Yep, definitely the late 80's and early 90's. It's taken some training, but I have been doing my best to try to see past the current state of a furniture piece and think about what it really could look like with a coat of paint or a nice sanding job. Usually it doesn't take more than a little TLC, and while I have been able to look at some solid wood pieces and think all they needed was a coat of paint, I haven't tried it yet with any upholstered pieces. That is...until now!
I picked up this solid floral bench for just a few bucks. My daughter had been looking for some similar benches to put at the end of her bed {a bed she made with her grandpa last summer-you can find the tutorial here}, with no luck in our budget. When I spotted this one, I thought I would give it a try.
It was so easy and I love the after! You can still see the subtle hint of the pattern through the paint, but it's not the obnoxious floral pattern that every shoulder-padded vest was made out of in the 90's. Come check out how I did it!

The Biggest Garage Sale Mistake!
I go to a lot of garage sales. I've been going to them for the better part of 35 years and would like to consider myself to be a garage sale expert. I even wrote a whole Garage Sale Handbook using my expertise!
Like nails on a chalkboard, there are 3 words that I hate to hear at a garage sale. Perhaps you feel the same way?
Any guesses as to what those three words are?
Garage Sale Finds Friday-American Pickers style Edition 77
Welcome back to another garage sale finds Friday, where I share with you some of my favorite garage sale finds. This week, things are going to be a little bit different.
My husband and I have been watching the first season of American Pickers on Netflix, and since so many of the items that I find each week end up for sale, I thought I would do a fun little follow up on the items that I have found this summer, the price I paid for them and {here's the fun part!} the price I have sold them for and the profit that I have made.
Transformation Tuesday
On Friday, I shared with you some of my latest garage sale finds. I left you with the challenge of seeing if you could figure out which item I made over for transformation Tuesday.
Do you think you guessed correctly? I've even already sold the piece and made a tidy little profit on it.

Garage Sale Friday roundup of my best kept secrets! Edition 75
The summer is winding down, but our schedules seem to be amping up. Especially on the weekends. We are doing our best to squeeze every last bit of fun out of our summer which means less time is being spent at garage sales. I've been traveling the last two weekends, which means no garage sale finds Friday from me. I've bought zippo, nada, nothing the past few weeks but I'm dying to get back out to the sales for sure!
In the meantime, I thought I would revisit a few of my past garage sale tip posts {how to drive traffic to your garage sale, tips for the garage sale first timer, and how to negotiate the best deal} just in case you missed them.

Garage Sale Finds Friday-the one where I steal furniture...sort of. Edition 72
Welcome back to another week of garage sale finds Friday, where I share with you my favorite garage sale finds from the week.
This week, I did some thrifty redecorating. I have the hardest time decorating because I put these imaginary budget constraints on myself and unless I can find something at a garage sale, usually nothing fits in that budget.
I've spent the past nine months thinking about a neutral chair for our living room, but I haven't been able to find one. I really felt like something needed to flank the fireplace. Well, I finally found something. And you won't believe how much I paid for the corner room redo!
Transformation Tuesday painting a desk with metallic paint
Welcome back to another transformation Tuesday! I'm so excited to share with you my latest garage sale find from Friday that has been transformed!
I had a chance to sample the metallic paint line from Modern Masters and was drawn to Pewter. There are some amazing metallics to choose from, but silver has my heart.
Bet you can't guess which item from my garage sale finds Friday I chose to paint metallic.

Welcome back to another week of garage sale finds Friday, where I share with you my favorite garage sale finds.
Today I'm being featured on the Summer Spotlight The Summer Spotlight showcases creative ideas from a different talented blogger each Friday throughout the summer months. I am beyond excited to be a part of it!
Katie from View from the Fridge asked some really thoughtful questions and it was fun being a part of this summer series.
I encourage you to swing by and check out the feature about Holy Craft as well as the entire Summer Spotlight series HERE.
O.k. Back to business! Because I know you all want to see what I found this week at garage sales.
This week, I stumbled onto a great vintage sale full of fun old trinkets and what the shops like to refer to as "smalls." I had my best time digging through boxes and crates.
Transformation Tuesday
Welcome back to transformation Tuesday! It's becoming one of my favorite new series on the blog.
I share with you on Friday my favorite garage sale finds, and then on Tuesday, I follow up with a transformation from the previous week.
This past week, I bought all the large things. I bought a rare art deco dresser for $20 that ended up being worth thousands, Ethan Allen pieces and some other large awesome goodies. Any idea what the transformation item will be this week?
Think I painted some furniture? I did! Bet you can't guess which item I painted.
Garage sale finds Friday-the week in which I buy large things Edition 69
Welcome back to another week of garage sale finds Friday. Where I share with you some of my favorite garage sale finds. You may have noticed that we skipped last weeks fun. Vacations {missed two weekends while we were in Hawaii} and holidays {darn 4th of July falling on a Saturday!} will do that to you! But we are back at it. I super duper missed garage sales and was having sweats and shakes that made me think I was probably having withdrawal symptoms!
This week I purchased all the large things. Seriously, like every large thing I could find, I bought. I didn't try to, it just happened. You won't believe the deals I got!
