How to Start a Skin Care Routine From Nothing

I mentioned before that I haven't been very good to my skin. I rarely wash my face at night and almost always sleep with my make-up on. I've been really fotunate to have smooth skin that has been fairly free from blemishes. Though the older I get the more I am noticing sun spots and sun damage on my face. I'm in my late 30's now and I know that something has to change. Which is why I was so excited to partner with Neutrogena for a 7 day rapid repair challenge in October. I ended up loving the products so much and was noticing such a difference in my skin, that I decided to continue this routine well after the challenge had ended. They say it takes about 21 days to create a new habit, and I think I turned over a new leaf in my skin care routine by using these Neutrogena wrinkle repair products, which is why I want to share with you, how you can create your own skin care routine from nothing. That's what I did!

How to Start a Skin Care Routine from Nothing!

I am not kidding you when I tell you I had zero skin care routine. Nada. Nothing. I would wash my face in the shower in the morning, but that was it. I'm not going to lie, making it a habit to wash my face at night has been a challenge. There are some nights when I am just too dog tired to want to splash water on my face, so I came up with a solution that worked. It may work for you too if you are a habitual make-up sleeper.

We send our kids up to bed around 8:30 every night. That's usually when I change into my comfy pants and start thinking of relaxing on the couch for a bit before I head up to bed myself. Instead of waiting until just before I slip into my bed, I started washing my face when I change into my comfy clothes. Once those elastic pants are on, it's usually a sign that this mama isn't going out in public anytime in the near future, so it's safe to say that I can take my make-up off then too.

Step One: Wash Your Face

This seems easy enough but after a lot of years of not taking the time to wash my face, this was the first step I needed to get implemented in my skin care routine. If you are already doing this, high five to you!

Step Two: Put on Eye Cream

I love the Neutrogena rapid repair eye cream! I always do this step first and you can see from the images below what a difference it's made. I no longer have the dark circles under my eyes and the fine lines and wrinkles that were creeping up around my eyes, are less noticeable. You want to make sure you don't pull the skin around your eyes, so use just a few fingers to gently pat the eye cream around your eyes.

Step Three: Use Repair Serum

The directions say to use a pearl-sized dot on your face, but I probably use two pearl sized dots because this is one of my favorite products in the history of ever! The Neutrogena repair serum has Accelerated Retinal SA which is clinically proven to help: fade the look of deep wrinkles, brighten skin's tone, smooth fine lines and texture and leaves your skin feeling soft right away. I use this product on my forehead, down my nose and under my eyes and around my mouth. I use it both night and day. I can tell during the day, that this product alone really helps my make-up go on smoother and gives me that nice fresh dewy look like I have the skin of a teenager.

Step Four: Use a Moisturizer

Neutrogena has two separate moisturizers that are formulated for night and day. The day formula has broad-spectrum sun screen so that when it's used with retinol based products, they work together like a skin powerhouse to give you the best anti-aging results.

After doing this skin care routine for just a few days I could already tell that my skin felt smoother and was softer, which is why I continued to stick with it. I honestly can't believe the side by side before and after images. Look how much brighter and more even my skin tone is. I can also tell that those sun spots are starting to fade and while I'm not really plagued by wrinkles, I do have some and those wrinkles are more smoothed out.

I'm sold! The one time I went to a dermatologist, he tried to sell me one tube of cream that had retinol in it for $150. I honestly never noticed as much of a difference using that expensive cream as I have using these much more affordable over the counter options. I can even get them delivered to my door thanks to cvs.com! I'm so thankful these products ended up on my door step and could not be happier to see the results.

Because I love them so much, I want to give you a chance to win the complete line of Neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair and ultra sheer sunscreen prize pack. Take the challenge! You will see results in just 7 days like I did and will probably be motivated to start your own skin care routine from nothing!

My grandmother always told me never to go to bed with makeup on. Sometimes I'm too worn out to do more than brush my teeth before bed as well.

Funny thing - I think the best skin care routine I ever tried was living in Alaska till i have 26! All the sun damage women worry about just isn't a concern when the temps don't get above 70!!

The one thing I have to use is eye cream! It makes such a difference.

My best advice is to consistently wear sunscreen. I like to find a moisturizer that has sunscreen in it. My doctor noticed that my left arm is more sun-exposed than my right (from driving), so she suggested that I take care to wear sunscreen on it.

My dermatologist recommended these skin care rules: Use sunscreen, cleanse face at night and in the morning, after cleansing use an eye cream/ repair serum/ moisturizer & sunscreen (morning cleanse) and re-apply sunscreen when going outside & again each hour or after swimming)

I have been using a Neutrogena moisturizer with sunscreen for years. I wear it everyday! It is wonderful!

Truthfully, I didn't see any difference in your skin.
The difference was in your facial expression at day 1 and day 7.
But any way you moisturize is going to be good.
You have lovely skin which has a lot to do with genetics!

Thanks for all the tips you guys! Sounds like a lot of what I mentioned above so it sounds like I'm on the right track. Minus moving to Alaska!

I can tell a HUGE difference! I can't tell you how much better my makeup goes on in the morning and how much more even my skin looks without anything on. Plus, it's so dang on silky smooth like a baby booty! For real! Starting with something is better than nothing, so I feel good about taking care of my skin with this routine.
